So this past week I didn't get a normal day off (preparation day) because we had a maxi conference, that is, all of the missionaries in Sicily (1/2 our mission)got together wednesday in Catania (our mission headquarter city). It was great to be able to see lots of other missionaries and get some new ideas for work here. I also met the missionaries that are in Malta-—I have to admit I am a tad bit jealous that there aren't any sister missionaries there.

Our day off then became friday, and August 15th in Italy is Ferragosto (Ferie=holiday + Agosto=August) and everything is closed, and so no internet.

The work is going wonderfully here. Ragusa in general has been very friendly this past week. We have picked up a lot of new people who are interested, including a woman named Sofia who grew up in communist Albania and asked us the other day who Jesus was. Its really amazing to be able to see people grow--the inner teacher in me is loving every second.

We visited Siracusa and worked with the sisters there for a day. There are a lot more tourists there because it is right on the coast. It is really wonderful to see how friendly random strangers are.

And food moment of the week: I tried horse and chinotto, both of which I thought were great. Horse basically tastes like steak, and chinotto is this slightly bitter, gingery soda which basically tastes like a mix between ginger, rootbeer, and ginger ale.

As always, Im absolutely happy being here, and hope all of you are having a great rest of your summer. If you wrote me and want me to respond, give me your address (snail mail) and I'll try to respond as soon as I can.

Vi auguro un buon settimana!
