Buon giorno amici,

So there is no Halloween here, but on all saints day (Nov 1st) everyone goes and puts flowers on graves. Also it is olive gathering time, everyone is out helping people, and it is really wonderful to think about olives and their symbolism throughout

the scriptures (I highly recommend learning about the life of an olive tree at some time if you haven't learned about them before---I think they are fascinating.)

Thank you everyone who wrote me last week about doing nice things. I truly appreciated every email individually. I am helping the kids in the congregation here learn a song <> (If the Savior was at my Side) and it also talks about these principles.

This past Friday we spent most of the day on this farm just outside Pedalino which is just outside Comiso, which is just outside Ragusa. In summary, it's in the middle of nowhere. The family that lives there have a very humble abode, and we are teaching them but also helping them planting, etc, basically being farmers. As I was planting thousands of little zucchini plants I was realizing how serene life must have been for most of human existence. Working to make the food you eat, no sounds of cars or other people, no big buildings blocking sunrises and sunsets...everyone helping each other to get the crops planted. I am so grateful for the conveniences of this century, but recently I have been struck by the beauty of a simple life. I think it does us good to reflect every so often on the simplicities of nature and the wonder of the world around us. The peace and joy I had from getting all dirty and helping this humble family earn a living was worth much more to me than a new Armani outfit or a Ferrari.

I hope you all have a wonderful week and get to watch at least one sunset or sunrise.

A prossimo Mercoledi,
Sorella Black
